BIM-Medical Cannabis Ltd (BMC) was incorporated in Barbados in 2018 with the goal of facilitating the development of the medical cannabis industry nationally and regionally in the Caribbean. The Company has a formal affiliation with the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill establishing an active Public-Private-Partnership (PPP) to achieve this goal through a scientifically sound evidence-based approach to industry development. The principal services and activities of the PPP include: Keeping the Caribbean public aware of best practice and new developments in the medical cannabis industry globally; Developing and delivering educational and training courses and workshops for certification of physicians, pharmacists, nurses and other medical cannabis industry practitioners in Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean; Conducting laboratory and clinical research on medical cannabis and field research on medical cannabis cultivars; Providing Quality Assurance Services as the medical cannabis industry develops.
Who We Are
The Director of Operations of BMC is Professor Wayne Hunte, formerly Pro Vice Chancellor of Research at the University of the West Indies and Associate Professor at McGill University.
The principal contact point for the PPP between BMC and the University of the West Indies is Dr. Damian Cohall, Deputy Dean in the Faculty of Medical Sciences at UWI, Cave Hill.
BMC's affiliated personnel include: Dr. Judith Nicholls (Research Associate-Medicine), Mr. Steve Narine (Research Associate-Cultivars), Dr. Balraj Kistow (Business and Industry Development), Ms. Adi Montas (Marketing and Public Information), and three Junior Research Technicians, Nathan Clairmonte, McGill University, Sebastian Hunte, McGill University and Jaec Emtage-Cave, University of Toronto (Hon. BSc Neuroscience).
